After a five year break since moving to Charleston, I've just finished shipping most of my pa and recording gig from San Francisco. What bugs me the most about Charleston is that it is very tough to get good dates if your music is aliitle out of the mainstream. My songs seem to fall into the style of Peter Gabriel, David Bowie or Roxy Music. I figure my Target Audience is probably between 25-40. Truthfully, I haven't hit the pavement to hard as I really need to finish the touches on the set with this new group, but the clubs I have spoken to ( Music Farm, the late Plex) don't seem to be very interested unless you are on the edgier, warp tour, mid-twenties vibe. I actually like many bands in this stereotypical category, however its just not what I right. All in all, I have seen alot of talent here and the lack of having to compete with headlining DJ's is great.

When people spell "Musicians" "Musicains"....... *looks above* Also this forum is NOT very pleasing to the eye and extremely hard to read as I sit here typing into a white ass box with a faint colored text. If you need help with design contact me, I have done websites for a long time and would offer my help for free. Oh yea I'm in a local original band too.

When people like BigMesa try to push their talents on other people, when in all actuality, they have no talent themselves. If he did have talent, he would know what to fix on his on websites. Instead, he probably lays around on his ass until someone calls him and tells him he needs to update something because he's about 4 months behind. Oh yea, I'm in a local original band too, with him.

I just remembered what really gets under my skin. Fucking Cover Bands!!! Now let me explain why. I have no problem with a cover band that is put together by a bunch of guys who work for a living and want to get out and play some gigs without the headache of being an original band. I do have a problem with those fucktards that solely rely on the income they make being in a cover band to get by, and the fact they act like they're goddamn rock stars! The only thing they attract is single middle aged mom's who think by showing up every week at the same location, at the same time, and listening to the same set, that they will get some attention from a band member. Personally I'd rather quit playing altogether than play in a cover band. Oh, and one more thing, if your going to play a cover a) play the damn song right, and b) please don't think your ass is ever going to get a sponsorship. I think I've said my peace, and I sincerely hope I pissed someone off. And if your in a cover band, and I did piss you off, fuck off, I'm out of you league.

I would take offence to your post if I was one of those "Fucktards" but, I fall on the other side of the fence. I look as a cover band as one hellova part time job. Play music, drink a few beers and get paid for it. Can't beat it with stick... I was, however, the 'stage mgr" for one of those "other" cover bands. They played clubs all up and down the east coast. They partied like "rockstars". (more like Rockstar wannbes) The girls from the clubs in the smaller towns would fall all over them like they were somebody. Thier egos would get stroked. (as well as a few other things) There were plenty of parties after the shows with plenty of skanky chicks, booze, drugs and plenty of STD's to go around. (luckily I was able to avoid that part of it.) It was like an episode of Behind the Music, of coverband "fucktards". A couple of the guys in the band were doing it for money untill their " Original Project" got off the ground... The bass player was living off his wife's salary from the Marines, The Drummer's father was loaded so he wasn't worried about money. He was just in it to have a good time. The 2 that were waiting for thier origional thing to take off were a couple of the most arrogant, egotistcal, look at me, I think I'm a rockstar types I have ever known. To this day, two of the biggest Douchebags I have ever met. One has since grown up and has a regular job and does the weekend cover band thing, like I do. The other is still waiting for his Original thing to take off... He's been waiting for 22 years now...
